Curfew clamped, three injured as police, protesters clash in Dhankuta

Kathmandu, January 35

At least three persons sustained injuries when police personnel and protesters engaged in a clash in Dhankuta on Thursday.

Locals had resorted to a protest against the government decision to name Biratnagar as the temporary provincial capital of Province 1. The protesters say Dhankuta should be made the capitals.

Earlier, the protesters had vandalised the District Administration Office. They also set various office equipment on fire.

Chief District Officer Prem Prakash Upreti tells Onlinekhabar that the clash erupted after police used force to contain the situation.

Police had lobbed dozens of tear gas shells and baton-charged protesters to disperse the mob.

Meanwhile, the District Administration Office imposed an indefinite curfew in the Dhankuta district headquarters.
