Dhankuta, October 28
After the cyclone that developed in the Bay of Bengal grew stronger, the District Administration Office, Dhankuta, has urged people to remain on high alert, saying heavy rain and windstorms are likely in districts of Koshi Province, including Dhankuta.
According to a notice issued by the District Administration Office, Dhankuta, heavy rain accompanied by thunder and windstorms is likely from October 29 to 31. Administrative Officer Ramji Paudel said the administration has asked the public to stay alert based on special bulletins issued by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority and the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
He said the administration has urged people to take the necessary precautions to reduce risk, as the expected rainfall could raise the danger of floods, landslides and inundation, and could cause human and material losses.
The administration has asked people not to carry out, or have others carry out, agricultural work such as harvesting and bringing in the paddy crop from Thursday. It has also asked tourists not to travel to high hill and mountain areas, and those already in risk-prone areas to stay in safe places and avoid possible hazards.
Since road and air transport could be affected by heavy rain, the administration has also urged people to avoid travel except for essential work.
The administration has directed local levels, security agencies, volunteers and other stakeholders to inform the public about the risks and to stay prepared for disaster response. Individuals and families living in risk-prone areas for which advance notice and warnings have been issued have also been asked to relocate to safe places.
The administration has further asked people to follow the updated forecasts and warnings issued by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology and other relevant bodies.
It has also asked people to contact the relevant agencies immediately and report any disaster incident. The administration has urged everyone to take advance precautions and follow official information to minimise loss of life and property from possible disasters.
