Three injured as Congress, RJPN cadres clash in Sarlahi voting centre; one critical

Sarlahi, December 7

Three persons sustained injuries when cadres of Nepali Congress and Rastriya Janata Party Nepal clashed at a voting centre in Kaudena Rural Municipality of Sarlahi district during the second phase of provincial and federal parliamentary polls on Thursday.

One woman among the injured, identified as Ram Rati Devi, is critical. Other injured have been identified as Saroj Kumar Yadav and Manoj Kumar Yadav. All of them belong to the RJPN.

The injured are undergoing treatment at the Malangawa-based District Hospital.

Chief District Officer Krishna Bahadur Katuwal says police opened four rounds of fire to contain the situation at Phulparasi voting centre.

It has been said that Congress cadres had tried to stop RJPN cadres from joining a voters’ queue, thereby causing the clash.

Meanwhile, voting has resumed at the centre after a brief halt owing to the clash.

More security personnel have been mobilised to contain the situation.
