Saptari, July 26

They are not even in their 20’s, but they are now in police custody on the charge of involvement in a serious crime.

The arrestees are Dilip Kumar Das, Jitendra Kumar Das and Arvind Das.

Police caught hold of Dilip (18), Jitendra (16) and Arvind (15), who hail from Rautahat VDC-2 of Saptari district, on the charge of abducting an eight-year-old child.

According to police, the three made a plan and abducted Sikendra Das (8), who is son of their relative Gangai Das of Rautahat-2, on July 22 while he was playing in a playground close to his house.

Then the three took the victim to Jatahi of India on a motorbike.

From India, they called Jhabar Das, uncle of the child, a day after the abduction and demanded ransom payment of Rs 15 lakh for the child’s release.

Bhim Dhakal, deputy superintendent of police, said: After getting information about the abduction, police personnel mobilised in civvies traced their location (on the basis of the phone call), caught hold of the abductors and rescued the child.

A preliminary police investigation has shown that the three had used a bike numbered Sa4Pa 3933 for committing the crime.

While Sikendra was playing in the field, Jitendra approached him and lured him into going to Kodarkati Bazaar with him.

There, Arvinda Das and Dilip Das were waiting for the child with the bike. Dilip and Arvinda took the child to Jatahi via Laukaha on the bike and kept him there.
