The advance bus ticket booking has opened from Sunday for passengers going home from Kathmandu for the Dashain holidays. Passengers have started to book and buy tickets from the counters in Gangabu, Kalanki, Balkhu, Purano Buspark, Koteshwor and many other places.
The advance bus ticket booking for the public is usually opened a month before Dashain festival begins. However, in recent years, transport entrepreneurs put forth their demands and conditions before opening the booking of bus tickets, thereby delaying the advance booking of bus tickets.
The meeting between the Department of Transport Management (DoTM), transport entrepreneurs and traffic police on September 13 had decided to open the booking of bus tickets for Dashain from today.
Though transport entrepreneurs had been seeking a hike in public transportation fare prior to opening the booking of bus tickets for the festive season, the DoTM said that bus ticket bookings would be opened based on the current transportation fare.
Around 2 million people leave the valley every year during the Dashain holidays.
