Supreme Court tells UML not to take action against lawmakers joining CPN-Unified Socialist

Som Prasad Pandey and Sharada Bhatta want to join CPN Unified Socialists.

Kathmandu, September 12

The Supreme Court has issued an interim order on Sunday, telling the main opposition CPN-UML party not to take action against lawmakers Sharada Bhatta and Som Prasad Pandey.

Both Bhatta and Pandey want to join the newly formed political outfit CPN-Unified Socialist, led by Madhav Kumar Nepal. However, they had missed signing the application for the party registration and the Election Commission had refused to register them as lawmakers of the new party.

It means these two are the UML lawmakers officially and the party may remove them from the lawmakers’ position if they defected to the CPN-Unified Socialist.

Therefore, they had moved the apex court against the commission.

The order will be in effect until Tuesday, when the next hearing will take place.
