Supreme Court registers contempt of court case against 4 ex-CJs

Former chief justices Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Anup Raj Sharma, Kalyan Shrestha, and Sushila Karki had issued a statement in January 2021, staying the court should quash the government’s decision to dissolve the House and reinstate it.

The Supreme Court has registered a contempt of court cases against four former chief justices for their remark about the sub-judice case about the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

Some days ago, former chief justices Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Anup Raj Sharma, Kalyan Shrestha, and Sushila Karki had issued a statement, staying the court should quash the government’s decision to dissolve the House and reinstate it.

Claiming the statement disrespected the independent judiciary, advocate Dhan Jit Basnet filed the case today. The court has scheduled a preliminary hearing on it for Thursday.

Earlier on Tuesday, the court had registered contempt of court cases against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former speaker Daman Nath Dhungana also.

Meanwhile, the hearing of the case against the dissolution is underway in the constitutional bench of the court today also.
