Supreme Court orders police to investigate Former Speaker Agni Sapkota

Kathmandu, June 5

The Supreme Court has ordered police to proceed with an investigation into a murder complaint filed against former Speaker Agni Sapkota.

A full bench comprising Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut and Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla, Kumar Regmi, Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma, and Dr Kumar Chudal overturned the police’s previous decision to dismiss the case.

Although the court mentioned the issuance of a writ on its website, it did not release further details.

Purnimaya Lama from Kavre had filed a complaint alleging Sapkota’s involvement in the murder of her husband, Arjun Lama. The police had decided to shelve the case, prompting a writ petition in the Supreme Court.

Following the order, Kavre District Police Office will be required to resume the investigation.
