Special Court summons Gachhadar among others over Baluwatar land scam

The Special Court on Friday summoned former deputy prime minister and Nepali Congress leader Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar among others to the court in the next 15 days.

Gachhadar is one among the 175 persons and organisations that the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has named as defendants in a case related to the encroachment of government land in Baluwatar of Kathmandu.

Claiming that Gachhadar incurred a loss of Rs 96.5 million, the commission has demanded that he pay the money and serve a jail sentence for eight to 10 years.

Along with the opposition leader, a few other defendants including former ministers Dambar Shrestha and Chhabi Raj Panta and former CIAA chief Deepa Basnyat. So far, the court issued summons to 74 among 175 persons and organisations, informs Indra Kumar Khadka, a deputy registrar at the court.
