The ‘Sketching and Sculpture Exhibition 2082’ officially began on Friday in Kathmandu, showcasing artwork created by students under the “Skills in Education” program run across 46 schools within the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC). The event is jointly organised by the Education Department of KMC and the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).

According to a press statement released by NAFA, the exhibition features student creations made during training sessions based on the “Sketching and Sculpture” module. The program was inaugurated by Chancellor of the Academy, Naradmani Hartamchhali, who emphasised the importance of integrating art with education. “While this may seem simple at first glance, it reflects the early stages of how children perceive society. It lays the foundation for their future roles as intellectuals, scholars, and creative individuals,” he said.

According to Devendra Kumar Kafle ‘Thumkeli’, Member Secretary of the Academy, the exhibition displays artworks—both paintings and sculptures—created by over 1,300 students. He highlighted the vital role of art in fostering a creative society and shaping imaginative citizens, noting that the showcased works offer a glimpse into the future of Nepal through the eyes of its youth.

Saurganga Darshandhari, the exhibition coordinator and Head of the Multidimensional and Creative Arts Department at the Academy, remarked, “Becoming an artist is a big deal. Artists work independently and can thrive just like in any other field. In a country with such rich artistic heritage, organizing events like this is essential.”
