Siraha’s Golbazar ward chair arrested for offence against public peace

Siraha, October 26

Soheb Anwar, chair of Ward 11 of Golbazar Municipality in Siraha, has been arrested on a charge of violating public peace.

Ward Chair Anwar was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident in Golbazar, Siraha, on July 30, which was linked to the incident in Devnaganj, Sunsari, on July 26.

Police Deputy Superintendent (DSP) and spokesperson Ramesh Bahadur Pal of the District Police Office, Siraha, said he was arrested from Golbazar on Sunday night.

About two months ago, some people from an organisation called “Hindu Samrat Sena” filed a complaint with police, alleging that Ward Chair Anwar played a key role in the vandalism and arson in Golbazar. Based on that complaint, police registered a case against Anwar for an offence against public peace.

According to police, Anwar had been hiding, staying sometimes at his in-laws’ place and sometimes elsewhere. Even when he came home, he would hide to evade police. Police said they arrested him on Sunday night based on information they received.

Under Section 65 of the Muluki Criminal Code, 2074, an offence of disturbing harmony among communities based on religion, caste, ethnicity, community or language carries a prison term of up to one year and a fine of up to Rs 10,000 if proven.
