Shashank Koirala describes Madhesh as fountation of Nepali democracy, promises to address simmering discontent

Kathmandu, March 9

Right after his election as general secretary of the Nepali Congress, Shashank Koirala described Madhesh as the fountain of Nepal’s democracy and pledged to address dissatisfaction entrenched there on the basis of understanding.

After his election as NC general secretary, Koirala thanked representatives of the 13th general convention of the party, leaders, cadres and well-wishers. The (country’s) political situation is still fluid, he noted, pledging to take initiatives for addressing concerns raised during the jamboree.

The Congress faces huge responsibilities and challenges, Koirala said, adding: At present, there’s dissatisfaction in Madhesh, the source of our democracy. The Congress is committed to addressing the problems on the bases of understanding, collaboration and mutual trust.

Nepali cultures and traditions are a mixture of minority communities’ cultures and traditions, he said, pledging to make Nepal prosperous by preserving them.

He said the 13th general convention has given a new lease of life to the party.  Koirala expressed confidence that GC representatives will return home with a new zest and zeal.

Through his Facebook account, Shashank, son of BP Koirala, thanked all those, who made the Congress convention a huge success. The demise of Sushil Koirala, the captain of constitution formation and NC party president, affected the Congress, but the party managed to organise its general convention with much ado and fervor, the NC general secretary said.
