Kathmandu, August 6
Work is progressing rapidly to organise the tangled overhead utility cables across the Kathmandu Valley. Internet and other service providers are clearing and reorganising the disorderly cables in major urban areas of the valley. The government had instructed concerned agencies and service providers to properly manage the overhead internet, telephone, television, and other cables hanging haphazardly from electricity poles.
According to officials, the tangled cables not only spoil the city’s appearance but also increase the risk of accidents. Service providers are currently organising the overhead cables along the Kalimati–Kalanki road corridor.
In the first phase, unused cables are being removed and managed along six major routes in the Kathmandu Valley: Tripureshwor–Kalimati–Kalanki, Jadibuti–Pepsicola, Tripureshwor–Lazimpat, Samakhushi–Town Planning–Gongabu, the Kirtipur area, and Old Baneshwor–Gaushala–Chabahil.
