Senior neurosurgeon Dr Devkota no more

Kathmandu, June 18

Senior neurosurgeon and former minister Dr Upendra Devkota passed away in Kathmandu on Monday.

Dr Devkota (61) breathed his last 17:35 hrs at the National Institute of Neurological and Allied Sciences, the hospital said in a statement.

Dr Devkota had been suffering from bile duct cancer. He had been receiving treatment at the hospital after returning from the UK, where he underwent treatment. According to hospital sources, he was brought to Kathmandu after doctors said there was little hope he would recuperate.

According to the hospital, Dr Devkota’s body will be kept at the hospital till 1 pm. It will then be taken to the Pashupati Aryaghat, where it will be cremated. Dr Devkota’s wife Dr Madhi Dixit and daughters Medha, Vasudha and Manjari will jointly light the funeral pyre.
