Scotland imprisons Nepali for ‘buying’ trafficked woman

Kathmandu, November 11

A high court in Scotland of the United Kingdom recently sentenced a Nepali man among four people to jail for his involvement in activities that amount to human trafficking.

Anil Wagle, 37, ‘bought’ a woman trafficked from Slovakia to Glasgow to be exploited, according to a local media report. Birmingham Live reports that the court sent him to jail for eight years and six months.

The court also sentenced three others to jail after finding them guilty of charges involving selling eight women for prostitution and slavery. The three were natives of Slovakia.

Judge Lord Beckett said in his sentencing statement, “Such crimes are utterly repugnant”, the report quotes, “They involve the degradation of other humans, treating them as if they were objects or animals to be transported and sold for exploitation.”
