UPDATE: 2.20 PM

After his tweet, a number of people criticised the American Embassy for not giving him a visa. A few hours after his tweet, Lamichhane was called by the embassy and after an interview was given the visa.

Nepali cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane’s visa application for the US has been rejected.

Lamicchane, in a tweet, mentioned that his application was rejected by the US Embassy in Kathmandu. The young legspinner, who has been playing for the national squad for the last three years, had applied for an American visa to play in the Caribbean Premier League due to start on September 4. He is supposed to play for Barbados Tridents.

“Being a National Cricket Player representing my country in the various leagues since 2016 around the world, this is a big surprise to me,” he tweeted earlier this morning. Lamichhane wanted an American visa as there are talks of the second round of the tournament being held in Florida. There has been no confirmation as of yet.

Lamichhane in his Twitter, further added that he had all the necessary documents and was surprised that he did not get the visa. “Being a sportsperson, it’s gonna be a bit hard for me to go and participate in the CPL now,” he added.

He showed his displeasure over the incident by mentioning Hello Sarkar, the Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and US Ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry. Lamichhane had earlier played in 2018 edition of CPL for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.
