Kathmandu, April 20
Sameer Paul Kapur, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of the Bureau for South and Central Asian Affairs, has arrived in Kathmandu.
According to a source, he landed at Tribhuvan International Airport at around 6:15 am today.
Kapur, of Indian origin, has arrived in Kathmandu to expand relations with the new government led by Balen Shah.
During his stay in Kathmandu, Kapur is expected to hold high-level meetings and is preparing to meet some government ministers. In October last year, U.S. President Donald Trump appointed Kapur, a South Asian security expert, as Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia. Before him, Donald Lu handled South Asia affairs.
Kapur’s visit to Kathmandu is said to be for three days. He will return on Wednesday. He is the most senior foreign diplomat to visit Kathmandu since the formation of the Balen-led government.
