Samata’s Sanjel acquitted of suicide abetment charge

Uttam Sanjel

Kathmandu, March 5

The owner of Samata School and Samata Hospital, known for their cheap fees, has been acquitted of a suicide abetment charge that he was fighting against for the past nine months.

A single bench of Kathmandu District Court Judge Kamal Prasad Pokharel issued the verdict in the favour of Uttam Sanjel on Wednesday. Along with him, his wife also got acquitted of the charge.

In June last year, a cleaner of Sanjel’s hospital was found dead inside the hospital. During the investigation, police had found a suicide note, in which the deceased had named Sanjel among others as the causes of her self-killing. Owing to the pressure from the deceased’s kin, police had arrested the couple.

But, the court decided yesterday that the claim that Sanjel abetted the suicide could not be justified.
