Ruling party’s student unions demand IGP Khanal sacked

Student leaders of Nepal Communist Party submit a memorandum to Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, on Thursday, October 4, 2018.

Kathmandu, October 4

Student unions close to ruling Nepal Communist Party have demanded that the government sack Inspector General of Nepal Police, Sarbendra Khanal, as he has turned inefficient to perform his duty.

Leaders of All Nepal National Free Students Union and All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary led a delegation to the Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa and demanded that he sack the police chief.

The student leaders have claimed the police organisation under Khanal’s leadership has been unable to control increasing incidents of violence against women and children, such  as rape and acid attack.

Meanwhile, the unions also demanded that the government make the report about investigation into the rape and murder of Nirmala Pant at the earliest.

Also today, a group of youth has demanded the resignation of Home Minister Thapa.
