Remittance inflows rise 31.4% in first four months of FY 2025/26

Building Nepal’s future requires more than remittances

Remittance inflows to Nepal increased by a robust 31.4 per cent to Rs 687.13 billion in the first four months of the current fiscal year 2025/26, compared to a 9.4 per cent growth in the same period last year, according to the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).

In the month of Kartik (mid-October to mid-November), remittance inflows reached Rs 133.82 billion, up from Rs 114.31 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year. In US dollar terms, remittance inflows grew by 25.3 per cent to USD 4.88 billion during the review period, significantly higher than the 8.2 per cent growth recorded a year earlier.

The NRB reported that 145,973 Nepali workers obtained first-time approval for foreign employment during the period, while 127,837 renewed their labour permits. In the same period last year, these figures stood at 147,478 and 94,105 respectively.

The country’s current account remained in surplus at Rs 279.65 billion, nearly double the Rs 147.78 billion surplus recorded a year ago. Balance of Payments also posted a surplus of Rs 318.40 billion.

Gross foreign exchange reserves rose by 14.1 per cent to Rs 3,055.52 billion by mid-November 2025. Meanwhile, consumer price inflation eased sharply to 1.11 per cent, down from 5.60 per cent a year earlier.
