Rana claims his party is mainstream RPP

Press meet of Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Democratic on Monday, August 7, 2017.

Kathmandu, August 7

Pashupati Shamsher Rana claims the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Democratic that he formed yesterday by splitting the Rastriya Prajatantra Party led by Kamal Thapa is the mainstream RPP.

Organising a press meet a day after the formation of new party in Kathmandu on Monday, Rana said he was forced to form the new party as Thapa ran the RPP unilaterally after the unification of then RPP led by him and then RPP-Nepal led by Thapa.

“Unification is not just acquisition, but unification,” he said, adding he handed over the leadership to Thapa with a hope that the party would run in a unified fashion.

“But, attempts have been made to run the party autocratically as if it was won [in a war], by taking the easy leadership handover as an weakness.”

In a statement distributed during the meeting, Rana had accused Thapa of prioritising personal whims in operation of the party, not complying with the agreement to keep plough as the election symbol and failure to form a Directive Committee among others.

Earlier, Thapa-led party had expelled 17 leaders for their involvement in the split.
