Birgunj

Parsa, June 8

Rains have caused inundation in parts of Birgunj sub-metropolis, Parsa district. The inundated areas include Adarshanagar, Murli, Panitanki, Sripur, Nagawa, Viswa, Inarwa, Chhapkaiya, Ranighat and Goswar.

Traders said water seeping into their shops after rains, which lashed Birgunj from 3 am till 5 am, has caused damage worth lakhs of rupees. They said electronic shops, cloth shops, groceries and cosmetics based in Adarshanagar have incurred losses worth lakhs of rupees. Townspeople said the submetropolis is to blame for inundation as it did not bother to repair sewerage.

Service-seekers and employees are facing hardships due to waterlogging at the Parsa district administration office.

Bishnu Prasad Koirala, executive officer at the sub-metropolis, said ongoing construction of roads and sewerage, among others, is to blame for inundation. He said submetropolis employees have been trying hard to drain water that has accumulated after rainfall.
