Kathmandu, September 16
The government has reopened registration of public transport vehicles, effective from September 17.
According to the Department of Transport Management, registration has been reopened for now only outside Kathmandu Valley, with priority given to electric public transport vehicles.
Inside Kathmandu Valley, registration has been opened only for school buses and vehicles being registered as replacements for existing public transport vehicles. The department has instructed all provincial governments to register vehicles accordingly.
The government had halted public transport vehicle registration effective from May 21. Department officials have not disclosed why registration was suspended or what prompted the decision to resume it.
Department Director Maniram Bhusal said registration has been reopened only outside Kathmandu Valley to facilitate route and vehicle management within the valley.
The department had already reopened registration of cargo vehicles from August 3. Before that, it had also registered public transport vehicles for which letters of credit had been opened by June 22 and which had already arrived in Nepal.
