Kathmandu, February 16

A five-member investigation committee has been formed under the leadership of Nepal Police DIG Masaud Alam Khan to investigate the riot that happened in the Balaju-Machhapokhari area of Kathmandu on Monday.

According to Nepal Police spokesman Poshraj Pokharel, the committee has been formed to investigate how the protest, which was said to be peaceful, turned violent and caused a lot of damage, including the vandalism at Lhotse Mall.

When the protest by transport entrepreneurs protesting against the fine imposed by the traffic police turned violent, two vehicles of the Metropolitan Police Circle in Balaju were vandalised and set on fire. Other public properties were also damaged.

An angry mob also looted the Lotse Mall. At least 15 people involved in the riot have been taken into custody by the police.
