Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is to visit flood-affected areas in Province 2 and announce relief and employment packages for survivors.
Prime Minister Oli, who is set to leave for Singapore on Saturday, will visit Province 2 immediately after returning from Singapore, the Prime Minister’s office said. Oli made the announcement during a meeting with a delegation of lawmakers representing Province 2.
PM Oli said that the federal government decided to distribute relief on its own after its received complaints that the provincial government did not manage the process efficiently. The government will re-construct houses destroyed beyond repair by the floods, and provide employment to at least one member of families that have lost their farmland.
Prabhu Shah, an NCP lawmaker from Province 2 who was part of the visiting delegation, complained to the Prime Minister that the relief money provided to the provincial government was distributed among cadres of Madhesh-based parties and real survivors did not get relief. Shah, who is also the province chair of the party, said that the central government should take the initiative to provide much-needed relief for survivors of the flood.
