The government has increased the price of raw (unpasteurised) milk.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday increased the per litre cost of unpasteurised milk by Rs 6.52.

Farmers will now get Rs 56.04 for a litre of milk they sell, informs the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

The ministry says it will only be applicable to farmers and people who buy unprocessed milk from them. The price for consumers has not increased, informs the ministry’s spokesperson Prakash Sanjel.

“We have increased the base price that farmers get for their milk based on the amount of fat. This will have no impact on consumers,” says Sanjel.

The previous increment had come over two years ago.
