Preparations to connect Janakpurdham in Nepal with Ayodhyadham in India by rail have gathered pace, with Indian Railway officials arriving at Kurtha railway station in Dhanusha on Thursday with a 17-coach train to inspect security and technical arrangements ahead of the proposed service.

The train, bearing registration number WDP-4 D 40370, arrived in Janakpurdham from Ayodhya along with Indian Railway officials. Nepal Railway said it had been brought for preliminary testing and inspection as part of preparations to launch the proposed service.

Paribesh Parajuli, general manager of Nepal Railway Company Limited, said the 17-coach train had been brought in the first phase of preparations to operate a railway service between Janakpurdham and Ayodhya.

He said a formal agreement between Nepal and India on the service’s launch date and other administrative matters was yet to be reached.

According to Parajuli, officials are conducting an on-site assessment of the safety arrangements required to operate the service, the condition of the railway tracks, technical capacity and other management-related aspects.

Indian Railway officials will also hold discussions with their Nepali counterparts on train operations, safety and technical preparations.
