Kathmandu, January 9
Senior NCP leaders Madhav Nepal and Pushpa Kamal Dahal have reached an agreement to allow a member of the National Assembly to become prime minister.
The agreement comes as another senior leader Bamdev Gautam declined to contest for a seat in the upper house saying NA members cannot take charge as prime minister. The agreement between the two leaders during a meeting at Gautam’s house in Bhainsepati. According to sources, Nepal took the initiative to organise the meeting at Gautam’s house.
Nepal said that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was also positive about the proposal. Leaders at the meeting, which also saw the participation of vice-chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha, said they were not happy that Gautam declined to contest the National Assembly Elections and the comments he made about it made it difficult for the government to amend the constitution.
