Prachanda appeals to Madheshi parties to stop agitation

Kathmandu, April 13

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has called on Madhesh-based parties to stop their agitation and do their bit to institutionalise achievements such as federalism, secularism and inclusive democracy by contesting the upcoming elections.

The Prime Minister made the call a day after the Madheshi Morcha rejected the government’s new constitution amendment proposal and boycott elections if their demands are not met.

“The Prime Minister talked to Upendra Yadav and Rajendra Mahato and almost all prominent Madheshi leaders, and told them he wants to address their demands through negotiations,” the Prime Minister’s Press Advisor Govinda Acharya said.

Acharya said that Prachanda reminded the leaders that the amendment bill his government presented in Parliament on Tuesday was prepared keeping in mind the conclusions reached after informal rounds of talks with the Madheshi Morcha.

Acharya also said that the Madheshi leaders were adamant over their demands.
