Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is embarking on a week-long visit of China, says an agreement with the Madheshi Morcha over their participation in the civic elections and amendment of the constitution to address their demands, will be reached immediately after he returns.
The Prime Minister, who is also the Chairman of the Maoist Centre, told party lawmkers that a deal was within reach, and will be concluded when he returns from China. Maoist leader Top Bahadur Rayamajhi said the governemnt is trying to convince the Morcha to keep its demand for re-drawing of provincial boundaries on hold and agree to amend the constitution to incorporate the rest of its demands.
“The Prime Minister said he will try to get a deal before heading to China, and if that is not possible, immediately after he returns,” Rayamajhi told Onlinekhabar.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has urged his party lawmakers to focus on the May 14 civic polls. “We have worked hard to depose the monarchy and to promulgate the constitution. That is going to be the basis on which we will contest the elections. Now it is up to us to build a prosperous Nepal,” Rayamajhi quoted the Prime Minister as saying to the lawmakers.
