Dr Krishna Prasad Poudel has been appointed acting director general of the Department of Health Services.
Health Minister Nisha Mehta gave Dr Poudel the responsibility of acting director general of the department in a ministerial-level decision made last Friday. He has formally taken up the role since Tuesday.
“I have taken charge of the department’s responsibility from today,” Dr Poudel told Onlinekhabar.
Dr Poudel was previously posted at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajbiraj, Saptari.
The role of acting director general of the department had previously been held by Dr Anuj Bhattachan.
Bhattachan, who was also serving as director of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) alongside leading the department, will now remain only as director of that division.
The post of director general of the Department of Health Services is a 12th-level position.
With Dr Sangita Mishra having moved to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Dr Shree Krishna Shrestha is now the only 12th-level physician remaining at the Ministry of Health.
