Biratnagar, June 13

The Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav says the government can hold elections amid all challenges including incidents of sporadic violence if it really wants.

Speaking with Onlinekhabar at his residence in Biratnagar today, Yadav said most of the people in Madhesh were for holding elections at the earliest and boycott by a particular party should not result in deferral of the polls.

He said the protests announced by the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal would not have a capacity to stop people from using their right to vote.

“If those who claim themselves to be leaders of Madhesh can cast their votes in the PM’s election,” Yadav questioned, “How can they show the double standard by calling people of Madhesh not to use their voting rights?”

Recalling an exciting turnout in the first phase of elections on May 14, Yadav said, “In western hills, Biplav had obstructed. They also planted bombs. But, the turnout was 74 per cent. People want to vote. They want to have elected bodies.”

He, therefore, appealed to the RJPN to end the agitation and join the election process, warning achievements of various democratic movements would be lost if local, provincial and federal polls were not held on time.

Meanwhile, Yadav insisted that the government should strive for constitution amendment at the earliest.
