Kathmandu, December 31

All individuals who were arrested following the clash after a demonstration in Balkumari on December 29 have been released by the Nepal Police.

Over 70 people were arrested during the protest, where demonstrators demanded the opportunity to sit for all exams of the Employment Permit System (EPS).

Central Police Spokesperson DIG Kuber Kadayat confirmed that all those detained had already been released by Saturday.

Sources suggest that the police opted not to file a complaint against them, leading to the release of the arrested individuals.

Students who had previously taken exams for the skill-building sector staged a demonstration last Friday in Balkumari, asserting their demand to be allowed to apply for the manufacturing sector as well.

During the protest, Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Prakash Jwala’s car was vandalised and set on fire.

Two young men, Sujan Raut from Dailekh and Birendra Shah from Achham, died during the protest.

Following their deaths, protests have erupted in various parts of the country, including Kathmandu. Relatives have reportedly refused to claim the bodies of the deceased.
