(Updated) Police open fire at ‘kidnapper’ in Swayambhu

Kathmandu, August 9

Kathmandu Metropolitan Police officials have fired shots at two men in Swayambhu, Kathmandu.

Officials opened fire at Bijaya Lama aka Lopsang at Jhingu Cafe in Bijeswari Housing as he tried to flee. Crime Division SSP Sahukal Bahadur Thapa confirmed that police shot Lama below the knee to arrest him. Thapa informed that Amrit Tamang has also been arrested along with Lama.

Lama has been rushed to the National Trauma Centre for treatment. According to Thapa, Lama who hails from Ramechhap, has been allegedly involved in burglary and extortion.

Police said that Bijaya Lama tried to extort Rs 200 million for Likhu Tamakoshi Rural Municipality Chairman Govinda Bahadur Khadka. He threatened to abduct and kill his daughter if he did not pay up.
