The Metropolitan Police Range in Kathmandu says it is mobilising over 1,600 police personnel in the district to guard special events to be organised to celebrate the Holi festival on Thursday.

The office says the police have been informed about 13 such events so far. To guard them, it is deploying 1,649 police personnel.

The office has mobilised 25 mobile patrol teams, 37 other patrol teams on foot and 87 quick response teams. Likewise, checking stations have been established at 28 points.

“Of them, 26 teams will be in civvies whereas they include 45 senior officers,” SP Dinesh Raj Mainali, the spokesperson of the office, says.

The police have urged the public not to smear colours or pour water on anyone without their consent in the name of the Holi celebration.

“We expect members of the public themself to be responsible during the festival so that they do not get behind bars.”

The law enforcers have requested people to call the police at 100 if they experience or observe any untoward incident on the day.
