Police don’t believe Victory Lounge’s estimate of charred property

Kathmandu, October 14

The owners of Victory Lounge, which was gutted in a fire on Sunday night, say that property worth Rs 80 million was destroyed in the fire. Police, however, have not believed them.

The owners submitted their report to the police on Monday morning, which the security officials did not believe. According to a source at Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range, the owners have been told to submit the actual report with bills of the items and equipment destroyed and damaged in the fire.

“We think that their estimation is a bit over the top. We’ve asked them to give us bills of the equipment damaged in the fire. After we get that, we will then estimate the actual loss,” says an official investigating the case.

Preliminary reports state that the fire occurred due to an electric short circuit. It took Nepal Police, Nepal Army, KMC’s fire department and Armed Police Force three hours to control the fire.

The lounge has been completely damaged due to the fire. There were, however, no human casualties.
