Police crackdown on CPN (Chand) continues, Morang in-charge arrested

Kathmandu, March 27

Police have intensified their crackdown on the Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist splinter group that carried out a spate of violent activities around the country recently.

Within days after the party’s senior leader Hemanta Prakash Oli and Koshi in-charge Ghanshyam Shrestha were nabbed, authorities said on Wednesday that they have arrested the  group’s Morang District chief Krishna Kumar Shrestha (Prajjwal).

According to sources, Shrestha was arrested at Sundarharaich in Morang. However, police officials have declined to speak on the record.

Shrestha was a member of the now-defunct Maoist army. After the signing of the peace accord, he came to Kathmandu and took charge of the news section of Mirmire FM. Following a split in the then Maoist party, Shrestha joined the Mohan Baidya group and later the Chand Group, which was recently banned by the government.
