Police brutally attack journalist Adhikari for covering protest, try to smash his camera

Kathmandu, April 10

Onlinekhabar’s photojournalist Kabin Adhikari sustained injuries when police personnel under the command of DSP Prajit KC brutally attacked him while he was covering a protest, in Kathmandu, on Sunday.

Adhikari was covering the protest that government employees were staging against the preparations for election of their trade union. Police personnel reprimanded Adhikarki for covering the protest, took him away and rained lathis on him. Police also sought to seize Adhikari’s camera and smash it, but he managed to save the camera somehow. Kabin-adhikari

Employee unions affiliated to the UCPN-Maoist, CPN-Revolutionary Maoist and Madheshi parties are staging the protest. Trade unions affiliated to the Nepali Congress, the CPN-UML and some other parties are in favour of conducting the trade union election.
