Kathmandu, January 31
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged media houses in Nepal to be loyal to the country and its people.
Inaugurating the Itahari channel of the government-run Nepal Television, in Kathmandu, on Friday, the prime minister said the media should not make people hopeless and harm others. “The media should be committed and loyal to the country and its people,” he said, “Giving pain to others, defaming them and harming their personal, family or social status cannot make the country prosperous.”
The leader reiterated that the government performed a commendable job in the past two years, he said the media should make people informed about it. Oli claimed the government was in favour of the complete press freedom, dismissing rumours that it wanted to restrict the freedom of expression. “We are concerned about press freedom,” he said, “The government is committed.”
