PM should take responsibility for ‘wrong’ bills and be ready to quit, says Congress

Nepali Congress leader Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar

Kathmandu, June 20

The main opposition party Nepali Congress has demanded that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli take responsibility of tabling ‘wrong’ bills in Parliament that drew strong criticisms to the government. If necessary, the Prime Minister should be ready to quit owing to the protests, the party says.

Addressing a House of Representatives meeting in Kathmandu on Thursday, the opposition parliamentary party’s deputy leader Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar said Prime Minister Oli should take the moral responsibility of withdrawing the Guthi Bill owing to a public protest.

Though Gachhadar said Oli should be ready to quit, he said he would not demand the PM’s resignation as the government commands a two thirds majority support.

“But, shouldn’t the government have carried out sufficient preparations before registering the bill,” he said, “Withdrawing a bill is not a brave act.”

On the occasion, Gachhadar also protested Media Council Bill and National Human Rights Commission Bill.
