Kathmandu, March 20

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is addressing the nation this evening. In his address to the nation, which will be live on the state-owned Nepal Television and Radio Nepal, Oli will inform the people about the government initiatives taken to prevent the coronavirus spread in the country.

It has been said that Oli will make a ‘special announcement’ during his address.

Journalists from the private media have been barred to be present at the venue from where Oli will address in order to protect the prime minister, who had had his kidney transplanted on March 4, from infection.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the high-level government committee formed to control the coronavirus infection in the country is taking place today. Sources say the government will announce lockdown in the country through the meeting.

During the lockdown, the government will shut all airports and border points. All offices except those providing emergency services and public transportation are also likely to be closed.

The chief of the committee, Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokharel, had consulted Oli about the country’s situation this morning.
