Parliament committee directs government to work with Nepal Army, speed up road projects

Kathmandu, February 19

The parliamentary Development Committee has directed the government to speed up construction of roads in coordination with the Nepal Army. The committee has concluded that the national army has played a key role in opening tracks in remote parts of the country and building different roads.

It has directed the government to specify how much of the construction work the army should complete in a certain time and allocate budget for construction projects on time. Sunday’s meeting of the committee said it will be possible to expand the road network quickly if the Nepal Army, the Department of Roads and DOLIDAR work in close coordination.

The committee has told the government to release budget for road sections, which the army is assigned to build, within 15 days and take diplomatic initiatives to remove hurdles in the import of explosives required for construction work.

The panel informed it has directed the National Planning Commission to approve relevant processes for construction of the Benighat-Larke Bhanjyang road section and release budget required for the same without delay.
