More than 1,100 residents in Gulmi have received their passports through a home delivery service, which has now been expanded to all 12 local governments in the district.
The service has been rolled out across Gulmi’s two municipalities and 10 rural municipalities, with passports delivered directly to applicants’ homes.
The initiative is part of the government’s policy of providing public services at citizens’ doorsteps, eliminating the need for applicants to make repeated trips to government offices. The Home Passport Delivery Service, operated through the Department of Postal Services, is now available in all local governments in the district, according to Bhuvan Pandey of the District Post Office, Gulmi.
Chief District Officer Badrinath Gaire said the programme, which began in Resunga Municipality, has now been extended throughout the district. He said 1,110 people have so far received passports through the home delivery service.
The service was introduced to improve access to government services across the district. Residents said it has been particularly beneficial for people requiring passports for foreign employment, higher education and other purposes, as it has reduced the need to travel to the district headquarters.
Recipients said the home delivery service has saved both time and travel expenses. Previously, applicants had to return to the District Administration Office or another designated office to collect their passports after they were issued.
Khet Bahadur Khatri, chief of the District Post Office, said the Department of Postal Services now coordinates with local governments to deliver passports directly to citizens’ homes. Chief District Officer Gaire added that efforts would continue to make the service more effective, particularly for people living in rural areas.
