OnePlus has launched the OnePlus 12 series alongside the budget OnePlus Nord N30 SE in Nepal. The OnePlus 12 series includes the flagship OnePlus 12 and flagship killer OnePlus 12R. The OnePlus 12R has got mixed reviews from the Nepali audience in terms of pricing.

The R and T series from OnePlus is one of the most awaited and popular OnePlus smartphones in Nepal. These smartphones are OnePlus’s definition in terms of a flagship killer. There are quite some major differences in terms of specs from its predecessor, the OnePlus 11R. The differences include the build, display, chipset and battery.

The smartphone delivers a solid performance with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship chipset. The One Plus 12R will compete against the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE and Xiaomi 12.

Display and Design

The OnePlus 12R carries the same design as the flagship OnePlus 12 with some differences. The back is made up of glass with the Cool Blue colour option having a glossy matte finish and the Iron Gray colour option having a dark matte finish. The frame is sturdy and made up of aluminium with a shiny finish. The back curves into the frame for a premium feel and look.

The camera module is the major difference from the flagship OnePlus 12 on the back. The OnePlus 12 being a flagship includes a telephoto camera whereas the 12R opts for a macro lens. There is a slight camera bump with a shiny metal finish.

On the front, the OnePlus 12R has a centred hole-punch cutout which houses the selfie camera. The display is slightly curved offering minimal bezels. It measures 6.78 inches diagonally using LTPO AMOLED tech a resolution of 2,780 x 1,264 pixels and a pixel density of 450 pixels per inch (ppi). It has a wide aspect ratio of 19.8:9 aspect ratio. Its dynamic refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120 Hz ensures smooth and fluid animations and supports of a wide range of colour spaces including sRGB and Display P3, along with 10-bit color depth and HDR10+ delivers contrast and depth.

It has features like a nature tone display, eye comfort, bedtime mode, image sharpener, video colour enhancer, screen colour mode, auto-brightness, manual brightness, screen colour temperature, bright HDR video mode, dark mode and screen colour pro mode. The display not only offers protection to human eyes but is also protected from accidental drops and scratches with the help of the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. It also has IP65 waterproof and dustproof protection for further protection.

Performance and Storage

The OnePlus 12R is powered by the last-gen flagship chipset, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset built on a 4nm architecture. Its octa-core CPU configuration, including high-performance Cortex-X3 and Cortex-A715 cores, delivers smooth multitasking and handling of demanding applications. It is paired with the Adreno 740 GPU which offers impressive graphics performance for gaming and multimedia experiences. It runs on Android 14 with OxygenOS 14 operating system. The software experience is smooth with different customizable features.

It is available in one memory option of 16GB RAM which is paired with 256GB of storage.

Camera

The OnePlus 12R features a triple camera setup on the back. The main camera features a Sony IMX890 sensor with 50MP and a sensor size of 1/1.56 inches. It has a wide aperture of f/1.8, 24mm equivalent focal length and features like EIS and OIS to capture stable, clear photos and videos. The ultra-wide camera offers an 8MP sensor with a 112° field of view and f/2.2 aperture. Additionally, there is a 2MP macro lens for close-up photography which delivers an effective shooting distance of 4cm.

The rear camera has a lot of features including frame watermark, auto HDR, interval shooting, nightscape, Hi-Res mode, pro mode, movie mode, ultra steady mode, dual-view video, portrait mode, video portrait, pano, macro, slo-mo, time-lapse, long exposure, text-scanner, retouching and filters.

In terms of video capabilities, the OnePlus 12R supports 4K video recording at 60/30 fps, along with 1080p and 720p video at 60/30fps. You can also record super slow-motion video recording at 1080p resolution at 240 fps at 720p resolution at 480/240 fps.

The front camera of the OnePlus 12R has a 16MP sensor with a 24mm equivalent focal length, a pixel size of 1.0 µm and an aperture of ƒ/2.4 capturing bright and sharp selfies and videos. Although it features fixed focus, Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) support helps in reducing shakes and blurriness. The front camera is capable of recording 1080p videos at 30 fps and 720p videos at 30 fps. The front camera also has features like face unlock, screen flash, HDR, nightscape, portrait mode, pano, time-lapse, retouching, and various filters.

Battery and Performance

The OnePlus 12R is equipped with a massive 5,500 mAh battery, ensuring long-lasting usage without frequent recharges. Its charging capabilities are impressive with 100W SUPERVOOC wired fast charging, providing quick power replenishment. For connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6/7 and Bluetooth 5.3, ensuring fast and stable connections for internet access and wireless device pairing. It is equipped with LTE and 5G network compatibility for high-speed data transmission. It has support for dual nano SIM slots.

Audio features include dual stereo speakers, offering immersive sound experiences, along with noise cancellation support and Dolby Atmos for enhanced audio quality. The OnePlus 12R comes packed with a variety of sensors including an in-display fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, electronic compass, gyroscope, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, sensor core, rear colour temperature sensor, and infrared blaster.

The OnePlus 12R is available in two colour options; Iron Gray and Cool Blue.

The price of the OnePlus 12R in Nepal for the available 16/256GB option is Rs 90,999.
