On Education Day, PM blames past rulers for Nepal’s backwardness

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli speaks at a function in Kathmandu, on Wednesday, June 19, 2019.

Kathmandu, September 8

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has blamed past rulers for the country’s backwardness claiming they did not have farsightedness in taking the country ahead.

In his message to the nation on the occasion of National Education Day and International Literacy Day, the prime minister said Nepal was ahead of other parts of the world in the ancient times as reflected in mantras of Vedas, but the rulers of the times that followed could not continue the progress.

“Nepal should have moved forward as a land of knowledge, but it could not owing to the lack of farsightedness in the rulers,” he said, “But, the country cannot remain backward now.”

Oli said the government would promote practical, technical and employment-oriented education so that the academic institutions could produce skilled human resources needed for the country’s development. For that, he said, changes should be made from the basic level.
