The government has appealed to its citizens not to go abroad unless emergency citing growing fears of the Omicron variant of coronavirus in several countries.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health and Population’s assistant spokesperson Sameer Kumar Adhikari, however, informs no case of the new variant has been detected in Nepal so far.
Nonetheless, the World Health Organization has already recognised it as a variant of concern and the variant has appeared strongly infectious affecting all age groups, the country and citizens need to stay alert, according to him.
Meanwhile, the ministry has requested other stakeholders including concerned government agencies to maintain surveillance against the possible cases of infection.
