Oli’s ‘briefing’ to diplomatic corps: Only Nepalis have right to decide on political, constitutional issues

Kathmandu, March 27

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has told the diplomatic community in Nepal that the sovereign power of the state lies with the Nepali people and only they can decide on constitutional and political issues affecting them.

The Prime Minister, who organised a luncheon for representatives of the diplomatic community in Kathmandu, said that Nepal’s prolonged trasition was over and that his government’s focus is now on inclusive growth, stability and prosperity.

“Nepal has undergone a transformation of historic proportions in the past one decade. The impact of transformation has not only confined to political sphere but also has been felt across all spheres of national life. The transformation has been monumental in our political and constitutional history,” said the Prime Minister. ” I must say that this was a culmination of our successful, long and arduous struggles and Nepal’s ‘unique and home-grown’ peace process. The constitution has institutionalised the federal democratic republican system of governance, embodying the political
gains achieved over the years through successive people’s struggles and revolutions.”

He said that his government would not tolerate any attempts to undermine peace and stability. “There might be some attempts from different quarters to disrupt our social harmony and cohesion under various pretexts. There might be some elements who believe in perpetuity of conflict and discord in our society. We do not want to see our people exploited under any ulterior agenda,” the Prime Minister said.

He also told the diplomats that his government would not agree to provide blanket amnesty to people responsible for gross abuse of human rights during the conflict.
