Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said he will soon get his kidney transplanted again so that he can “work aggressively” for the remaining three years of his premiership.

During a meeting with editors of some mainstream media outlets in Kathmandu on Tuesday evening, the prime minister said he was preparing for the kidney transplant. Oli’s kidney was transplanted around 12 years ago, but it has stopped functioning properly of late. Consequently, Oli has to undergo dialysis regularly, twice or thrice a week.

Though his medical team is reportedly discussing the possibility of re-transplantation, it has not made any decision so far, apparently owing to some likely complications. A confident Oli, however, said another transplantation “would not be a big deal” and it would make him stronger again.

He stated that there was not any confusion inside his Nepal Communist Party about him continuing his premiership for the full term. Though he and the then CPN-Maoist Centre chairman had agreed to share the premiership between them for an equal period, Dahal later agreed to not stake claim over the premiership, Oli revealed.

However, he said there were some complications in running the party. “Here are some people who have been prime minister and party chief before me. I cannot dictate them,” he said, “I have to move ahead, giving them due respect.”
