Kathmandu, January 2

Activists who ran the Occupy Tundikhel campaign in 2019 and 2020 with a demand of making Tundikhel free and accessible to the public have come together once again.

On Monday, they gheraoed the Kathmandu metropolitan city office to protest the city government’s plan to encroach Khulamanch to build an underground parking facility there.

They also submitted a memorandum to Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol. They wanted to meet Mayor Balen Shah, but he was not available, according to the campaign team’s spokesperson Sanjaya Adhikari.

The activists say their protest will continue as saving Khulamanch from encroachment is important for the city’s environmental, cultural and political life.
