Kathmandu, November 30
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has begun using a broomer machine to clean city roads.
In cooperation with the Department of Roads, the local government used the machine to clean the road from Sundhara to Bhadrakali today.
The KMC says its broomer can collect dust weighing around 500 kilograms once. The broomer operator Aman Rai, however, says it cannot collect dust from potholes.
Likewise, plastic packets block the broomer and cannot function, he cautions. “It cannot work if there is water on the street. Other vehicles do not leave the space for broomer. There are other problems too.”
Drivers of some public vehicles, however, have expressed happiness over the introduction of new technology hoping it will reduce likely harms to their engines.
